Garmin Unveils New Beta Update 26.11 for Edge 1040, 840, and 540: New Features & Bug Fixes

Garmin has recently released a new beta software update, version 26.11, for its popular Edge 1040, 840, and 540 cycling computers. This update, currently being rolled out to 20% of users, introduces several key improvements and bug fixes.

Change Log 26.11

  • Added ability to update Garmin power pedal scale factors with accuracy of 4 decimal places
  • Fixed brightness jumping to 60% after being set to 0%
  • Added graphical compass data field
  • Fixed Garmin Connect Mobile displaying text in a different language

Enhanced Accuracy and Functionality

One of the standout features of this update is the ability to update Garmin power pedal scale factors with a precision of four decimal places. This level of accuracy is crucial for cyclists who rely on precise power data to optimize their training and performance.

Additionally, the update addresses a persistent issue where the device’s brightness would unexpectedly jump to 60% after being manually set to 0%. This fix ensures that users can maintain their preferred brightness levels without interruption.

Improved User Experience

The introduction of a graphical compass data field is another welcome addition. This visual representation provides cyclists with a more intuitive understanding of their direction, enhancing navigation and situational awareness during rides.

Furthermore, the update resolves a language discrepancy issue where Garmin Connect Mobile would display text in an incorrect language. This fix ensures a consistent and accurate user experience across all platforms.

Updating Your Device

To update your Edge device, simply follow these steps:

  1. Ensure Wi-Fi Connectivity: Make sure your Edge device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Access System Settings: Navigate to the Main Menu and select “System.”
  3. Check for Updates: Select “About” and then “Check For Updates.”

Garmin continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the cycling experience by regularly releasing updates that enhance functionality, address issues, and provide a more seamless user experience.
