Garmin releases new beta software update 26.12 for Edge 1040, 840, and 540

Garmin has begun the phased rollout of beta software version 26.12 for its popular Edge 1040, Edge 840, and Edge 540 cycling computers. Currently, the update is available to approximately 20% of users, with wider distribution expected soon. This update addresses several key issues reported by cyclists, focusing on improved data accuracy and user experience.

Change Log 26.12

  • Fixed issues with third-party workouts not syncing to the device
  • Fixed climb pro lines being too thick as you zoom out on the map
  • Fixed intensity minutes glance displaying incorrect values
  • Fixed overlapping values on some graphical data fields
  • Fixed issues with the backlight affecting the device’s temperature reading
  • Fixed Garmin Connect Mobile displaying text in a different language

The 26.12 beta update tackles a range of glitches, including problems with third-party workout synchronization. Users should now experience a seamless transfer of their planned workouts to their Edge devices. Garmin has also refined the ClimbPro feature, adjusting the thickness of climb lines on the map when zoomed out for better visibility.

Several data display issues have been resolved, including inaccuracies in intensity minutes calculations and overlapping values in certain graphical data fields. The update also corrects a problem where the backlight could interfere with the device’s temperature readings. Finally, a language display issue within Garmin Connect Mobile has been fixed, ensuring consistent language presentation.

Garmin is encouraging users to install the beta update to take advantage of these improvements. The update process is straightforward for Edge devices connected to a Wi-Fi network. Cyclists can initiate the update by navigating to the Main Menu, selecting System, then About, and finally, Check For Updates.

Users should ensure their devices are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network to facilitate a smooth and uninterrupted update process. As this is a beta release, Garmin recommends users back up their device data before proceeding with the update. Feedback on the beta version is welcomed by Garmin and can be submitted through their support channels.
