Garmin rolls out new Beta software update 13.24 for Fenix 8 and Enduro 3: New Features & Bug Fixes

Garmin has released a beta software update version 13.24 for its flagship smartwatch lines, the Fenix 8, Fenix E, and Enduro 3. This update brings a host of new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes designed to enhance the user experience. The update is currently rolling out to users and is available for download via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

New Features and Enhancements

This beta release focuses on expanding the functionality and customization options for users. Several key additions cater to specific user groups, while others improve the overall usability of the devices.

Strength Training and Jumpmaster Updates

For fitness enthusiasts, the update introduces haptic vibrations when editing strength sets, providing tactile feedback during workouts. Jumpmaster functionality receives a significant boost with the addition of HARP calculations and dedicated data screens. Users can also now set wind speed and direction within the Jumpmaster activity, offering more precise data for airborne activities.

Display and User Interface Improvements

Garmin has also focused on refining the user interface. Low-brightness widget glance backgrounds have been added for improved visibility in low-light conditions. A highly requested feature, limited control support is now available when the device is locked by the passcode feature, allowing for basic interaction even when secured.

Activity-Specific Additions

Skate activity now includes temperature data fields, providing athletes with valuable environmental information during their sessions. Language support has been expanded with predictive text enabled on the QWERTY keyboard for French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Dutch languages, making text input more convenient for international users.

Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

Beyond new features, this update addresses a range of bugs and performance issues, enhancing the overall stability and reliability of the devices.

Connectivity and Notifications

Garmin has resolved a crash issue that occurred when changing bike trainer resistance, improving compatibility with smart trainers. A duplicate iOS notification bug has also been fixed, ensuring users receive accurate and timely notifications. Errors encountered when saving Wi-Fi networks have been addressed, streamlining the connection process.

User Interface and Activity Tracking

Several user interface glitches have been ironed out. These include fixes for glance folder creation via Garmin Connect, issues with the golf green view map getting stuck in move flag mode, and corrections to HIIT activity timers. Layout issues with the Messenger contact list, text clipping in the Morning Report, and passcode digit clipping on solar models have also been resolved. Users will also appreciate the fix for the set count on the edit reps page and the correction to the settings menu when opened from the recents menu.

System Stability and Data Accuracy

Garmin has also tackled more technical issues, including a potential crash when holding the down key in a water activity and a potential position enhancement crash. The race calendar countdown timer has been fixed, and the weight display on the workout rest page is now accurate.

Removals and Adjustments

In addition to additions and fixes, Garmin has made some removals and adjustments to streamline the user experience. The “Connect to Existing Smart Trainer” message on the Indoor Bike app has been removed, as has the “Edit” option from scheduled workouts. The temporary settings reset behavior after five incorrect passcode attempts has been removed, with users now relying on Garmin Connect Mobile to unlock their devices.

Updating Your Device

The beta update is available for download via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. To update your device, navigate to Menu -> System -> Software Update -> Check For Updates on your watch. As this is a beta release, users may encounter unforeseen issues. Garmin encourages users to provide feedback on the update through their usual support channels. This feedback is crucial for refining the software before its official release.
