Garmin has commenced a phased rollout of its latest stable software update, version 22.22, for a selection of its popular Forerunner smartwatch models. The update, currently reaching approximately 20% of users, brings a suite of new features, performance enhancements, and bug fixes to the Forerunner 965, 955, 265, 255, and 165. This update underscores Garmin’s commitment to refining its devices and providing users with an optimized experience.
Enhanced Connectivity and Data Tracking
One of the key additions in version 22.22 is support for HRM 200 pairing and data. This expands compatibility with heart rate monitors, allowing users to leverage more accurate and detailed heart rate data during their activities. For individuals who utilize multiple Garmin devices, the update introduces improvements to Body Battery accuracy. This enhancement ensures more consistent and reliable readings across devices, providing a clearer picture of the user’s overall recovery and readiness.
Refined Training Plans and Metrics
Garmin has also focused on enhancing its training features. Both Garmin Run Coach and Garmin Cycling Coach plans now incorporate supplemental strength workouts. This integration offers a more comprehensive training approach, combining endurance training with strength conditioning for improved performance and injury prevention. Furthermore, the update refines the training readiness score by providing updates throughout the day. This allows users to track their readiness more dynamically and adjust their training schedule accordingly.
User Interface and Security Improvements
Version 22.22 includes several user interface refinements. The icons displayed with notifications have been updated for improved clarity and visual appeal. Security is also enhanced with the introduction of a passcode security feature with wrist detection. This feature adds an extra layer of protection, preventing unauthorized access to the user’s data. Garmin has also ensured compatibility with the latest Connect IQ apps, watch faces, and data fields, giving users access to a wider range of customization options.
Bug Fixes and Performance Enhancements
Beyond the new features, this update addresses a substantial number of bugs and performance issues. Garmin has tackled problems with touch settings not always being honored during activities, crashes that could occur with customized activity alerts, and navigation failures when using Hot Keys.
Other fixes include addressing issues with CIQ glance icons, workout video playback hanging, sleep mode schedule UI layout problems, potential crashes when editing HR Zones, incorrect time and HR zones, touch interaction for Map profiles, LiveTrack popup messages during Resume Later, gesture settings over power cycle, notification tone settings, custom workouts for the Stair Stepper profile, interval max HR data field during swim rest, set count on the edit reps page, race calendar countdown timer, and the flow when canceling glance folder creation via Real Time Settings. Garmin also notes various other bug fixes and general performance improvements, contributing to a smoother and more reliable user experience.

The rollout of version 22.22 is currently at 20%, and more users will receive the update progressively. Users can manually check for the update and initiate the download process by navigating to Menu > System > Software Update > Check For Updates on their compatible Forerunner smartwatch.
