Garmin has just released a fresh beta software iteration, version 13.07, specifically designed for the Edge 1050 cycling computer. This update brings a suite of improvements aimed at refining the user experience and enhancing device stability.
Reverse Course Navigation Now Available
A notable addition in this beta release is the capability to store and navigate courses in the opposite direction. This feature provides cyclists with greater flexibility in planning and executing their rides, allowing for spontaneous route reversals without the need for manual reconfiguration.
Resolved Dynamic Glance and Battery Icon Anomalies
Previously, users encountered issues where the dynamic glance feature failed to refresh without a device restart. This update addresses this problem, ensuring real-time data updates. Additionally, inconsistencies in the battery status icon during low battery warnings have been corrected, providing accurate and reliable battery information.
Harmonized Power and Heart Rate Zones
To maintain consistency across the Garmin ecosystem, the order of power and heart rate zones has been realigned to match the configuration in Garmin Connect, now displaying from high to low.
Optimized Gear Preset and Sensor Management
The software update optimizes gear preset selection, automatically applying a suitable configuration when a shifting system reports a non-standard gear count. Furthermore, issues related to sensor naming and pairing, including third-party Bluetooth power meters, have been resolved, ensuring accurate and reliable sensor data.
GroupRide and Data Screen Enhancements
Problems with the GroupRide glance displaying zero riders have been rectified, enabling accurate tracking of group participants. The update also addresses duplicate data screen entries when adding new screens and improves the overall stability of data screen management.
Wi-Fi Sync and Software Update Reliability
Manual Wi-Fi synchronization, which previously reported incorrect failure messages, now functions reliably. Additionally, an error prompt has been implemented for failed software updates, providing users with clear feedback and troubleshooting guidance.
Course Creator and Point of Interest Improvements
The Course Creator now accurately displays the “add” icon for Points of Interest (POIs), facilitating easier route customization. Furthermore, zooming actions in the Course Creator have been refined to prevent unintended triggering of other functions.
Audio and Connection Prompt Refinements
A missing tone when connecting new sensors has been restored, and the “Prompted Timer Start Mode” tone has been removed from non-data screens, streamlining audio feedback. Issues with the “Accept” button in connection prompts have also been resolved, ensuring smooth interactions.
Segment and Language Management Fixes
The update addresses segment deletion issues within the settings menu and rectifies color persistence problems on power-off page options. Long segment names are now displayed correctly without clipping, and the language picker no longer gets stuck in an infinite scroll.
Custom Alert and ClimbPro Updates
The format of custom alerts has been updated to a new, more user-friendly layout. A critical fix has been implemented for ClimbPro data screens, which were being incorrectly disabled.
General Stability and Minor Issue Resolutions
In addition to the specific fixes mentioned, this beta update incorporates numerous minor issue resolutions and overall device stability improvements, enhancing the reliability and performance of the Garmin Edge 1050.
Installing the Beta Update
To install the beta software, ensure your Edge 1050 is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Then, navigate to the Main Menu, select “System,” then “About,” and finally, “Check For Updates.” Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process.
