Garmin has unveiled a beta software update, version 12.16, for its popular Edge 1050 cycling computer, promising enhanced performance and stability for riders. The update, currently being deployed to 20% of Edge 1050 users, focuses on refining workout metrics, resolving software glitches, and improving the overall user experience. This phased rollout allows Garmin to gather feedback and ensure a smooth transition for all users.
Change Log 12.16
- Improved the algorithm used to calculate the workout execution score
- Fixed crash when canceling Garmin Share transfer
- Fixed crash while viewing scheduled Garmin Coach workout
A key highlight of the 12.16 update is the refined algorithm for calculating the workout execution score. This improvement aims to provide cyclists with a more accurate and nuanced assessment of their training efforts. By taking into account various factors such as power output, heart rate, and cadence, the updated algorithm should offer a more comprehensive picture of a rider’s performance during their workouts. This enhanced metric can help cyclists better understand their training progress and make informed decisions about their future training plans.
Beyond the workout score enhancements, Garmin has also addressed two specific crash scenarios. The update resolves a crash that could occur when canceling a Garmin Share transfer, preventing data loss and frustration for users. Additionally, a crash that sometimes occurred while viewing scheduled Garmin Coach workouts has also been fixed. This fix ensures that cyclists can seamlessly access and follow their personalized training plans without interruption.
Updating your Edge 1050 is a straightforward process. For users who have connected their device to a Wi-Fi network, the update can be easily installed wirelessly. Simply navigate to the Main Menu on your Edge 1050, then select System, followed by About, and finally, Check For Updates. The device will then connect to the network and download the available update. Users who haven’t yet connected their device to Wi-Fi can do so through the Garmin Connect app or by connecting the device to a computer. Garmin recommends ensuring your device is adequately charged before initiating the update process.
