Garmin Fenix 8 Series Receives Beta Update 13.18: Enhanced Typing, Improved Workouts & Bug Fixes

Garmin has released a new beta update, version 13.18, for its popular Fenix 8 series of smartwatches. This update brings a range of improvements, including new features and bug fixes, to enhance the user experience for owners of the Fenix 8 AMOLED (43mm, 47mm, and 51mm), Fenix 8 Solar (47mm and 51mm), Enduro 3, and Fenix E models.

Key Enhancements

One of the notable additions in this update is the inclusion of a character pop-up when typing on the QWERTY keyboard. This feature is designed to improve typing accuracy and efficiency. Furthermore, the Workout Structure Card now supports font scaling, allowing users to customize text size for better readability.

For enhanced safety during outdoor activities, the Proximity Alert option has been extended to all GPS activities. This feature provides added peace of mind for users engaging in various outdoor pursuits. Additionally, the Training Menu has been expanded to include Segments, offering athletes greater control over their training plans.

Map and User Interface Improvements

The Map App has received a visual enhancement with the introduction of a transparent Pan/Zoom bar. This change improves map visibility and overall user experience.

Several bug fixes are also included in this update. These address issues such as the “Until Sunrise” Flashlight Strobe Tip appearing prematurely, accidental alarm dismissals, and the broken ‘Delete’ option for custom activity profiles. Other fixes include aligning the Cycling Ability Page with the Fenix 7 user interface, resolving issues with Dynamic Source Switching setting failures, and correcting the Event Countdown Page to accurately display location information.

Updating to Beta 13.18

To update to the beta version, users can manually download the update by navigating to the main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates.

Important Note: It is crucial to note that updating to the beta version will temporarily disable the device’s ECG and dive features.

This beta update showcases Garmin’s commitment to continuously improving the Fenix 8 series and providing users with a more refined and enjoyable experience.
