Garmin releases new beta software update 20.13 for Fenix 7, Epix, Enduro 2, Quatix 7, and MARQ Gen 2

Garmin has begun rolling out a new beta software update, version 20.13, for several of its popular smartwatch lines. The update targets devices in the Fenix 7 series, Epix series, Enduro 2, Quatix 7, and MARQ Gen 2. The rollout is currently at the 50% mark, meaning half of eligible users should have access to the update.

A key focus of this beta update is the resolution of a potential crash related to the LiveTrack feature. LiveTrack is a valuable tool for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, enabling them to share their real-time location, activity metrics (such as pace, heart rate, and distance), and route information with designated contacts. This feature is particularly useful for safety during solo activities like running, cycling, or hiking, allowing friends and family to monitor the user’s progress and location. Addressing the potential crash aims to enhance the reliability and stability of this crucial safety feature for beta testers.

Users can access the update directly through their watches via Wi-Fi. The update process is streamlined and avoids the need for manual file transfers. Users should navigate to Menu -> System -> Software Update -> Check For Updates on their device to initiate the update.

Garmin has announced a significant change for the Fenix 7 series within the beta program. Moving forward, the ECG (electrocardiogram) feature will be disabled in beta software versions for these models. Users who rely on the ECG functionality are advised against participating in the public beta program to retain access to this feature.

This beta update 20.13 brings important stability improvements, particularly for LiveTrack. However, Fenix 7 users should be aware of the ECG feature being disabled in the beta. Users can check for the update on their compatible Garmin devices via the on-device update function.
