Garmin Releases New Beta Software Update 26.14 for Edge 1040, 840, and 540 Cycling Computers

Garmin has released beta software update version 26.14 for its Edge 1040, Edge 840, and Edge 540 cycling computers, marking another step in the company’s ongoing effort to refine its popular GPS devices. The update, currently being rolled out to 20% of users, focuses on resolving specific bugs and enhancing the overall user experience, particularly in areas related to training data display and sensor connectivity.

Change Log 26.14

  • Fixed display issue for Garmin Coach recovery days
  • Fixed empty sensor pairing list when pairing CIQ sensors
  • Fixed securely paired sensor showing unsecure connection after power cycling the device

This beta release directly addresses several pain points reported by cyclists. One key fix targets the display issues that were affecting Garmin Coach recovery days. Previously, some users experienced inaccuracies or glitches when viewing their recovery data, hindering their ability to properly plan their training schedules. Version 26.14 aims to resolve these display inconsistencies, providing cyclists with accurate and reliable recovery information to optimize their performance.

Beyond training data, the update also tackles critical issues related to sensor pairing. Cyclists relying on Connect IQ (CIQ) sensors will be pleased to see that the empty sensor pairing list issue has been resolved. This bug prevented some users from seamlessly connecting their CIQ sensors, disrupting data collection and impacting the overall functionality of the Edge devices.

Furthermore, Garmin has addressed the confusing issue of securely paired sensors being displayed as unsecure after a device power cycle. This glitch created unnecessary concern for users, and the update aims to provide a more accurate reflection of the connection status.

For cyclists with a Wi-Fi network configured on their Edge device, installing the update is a straightforward process. Simply navigate to the Main Menu, select System, then About, and finally Check For Updates. The device will then connect to the Wi-Fi network and download the available update. Users without Wi-Fi connectivity may need to explore alternative update methods, such as connecting their device to a computer via USB. Detailed instructions and FAQs regarding the update process are typically available on the Garmin support website.

This latest beta release reflects Garmin’s commitment to providing cyclists with reliable and feature-rich devices. By addressing these specific bugs and focusing on user feedback, Garmin continues to solidify its position as a leader in the cycling computer market. As the update progresses through its beta phase and eventually rolls out to all users, cyclists can anticipate a more seamless and enjoyable riding experience. The company’s proactive approach to software updates demonstrates its dedication to continuously improving its products and meeting the evolving needs of the cycling community.
