Garmin releases new beta update 15.24 for Fenix 8, Tactix 8, and Enduro 3 smartwatches

Garmin is once again demonstrating its commitment to refining the user experience, as evidenced by the latest beta software rollout – version 15.24. This update is now available for a select group of their high-performance smartwatches, specifically the Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3, and the rugged Tactix 8. Packed with both intriguing new features and crucial bug fixes, this beta promises to enhance the functionality and reliability of these popular devices.

Note: This beta software available for the Fenix 8 series will disable the ECG feature and Dive features.

Navigating Time Zones with Smarter Insights

Among the headline additions is the introduction of an Insight Hint for Jet Lag. This feature suggests Garmin is delving deeper into providing proactive wellness guidance, potentially leveraging the watch’s array of sensors to offer personalized tips and strategies for mitigating the disruptive effects of travel across time zones. This could be a valuable asset for frequent flyers and adventurers alike.

Enhanced Security with Wrist-Based Authentication

Another notable improvement focuses on security. The beta now incorporates Wrist Detect Support for Passcode when OHR is Disabled. This means that even when the optical heart rate (OHR) sensor is turned off, users can still benefit from the added layer of security provided by a passcode, authenticated through wrist detection. This offers a more seamless and secure user experience regardless of OHR usage preferences.

Polishing the Performance Feedback Loop

Several fixes address issues related to real-time feedback during activities. Users can look forward to Audio Prompts now Reading the Correct Pace Value, ensuring accurate and reliable information during runs and other workouts. Furthermore, the frustration of Audio Prompts Skipping Workout Steps should be a thing of the past, allowing for a more consistent and informative training experience.

Stability and Data Integrity Improvements

Beyond activity tracking, this beta tackles some stability concerns. The annoying issue of Body Battery Data Disappearing after Activity has been resolved, ensuring continuous insights into energy levels. Additionally, those who enjoy indoor climbing will appreciate the fix that ensures Bouldering and Indoor Climb Activities now Show Correct Data Pages.

Streamlining Communication and Navigation

Communication and navigation functionalities also receive attention in this update. The bug preventing Custom Text Message Replies from Displaying has been squashed, allowing for seamless interaction with incoming messages. For those using target data during activities, the Distance-Only Target Data now correctly shows Time Ahead/Behind. Navigation alerts should also be more reliable, with a fix addressing Navigation Alerts Getting Blocked when Navigating to Waypoints.

Refining User Experience and System Stability

The beta also includes a collection of smaller yet significant fixes and improvements aimed at enhancing the overall user experience. The issue of Initial Setup Repeating Some Steps after Wifi Sync has been resolved, leading to a smoother onboarding process. Users who customize their map settings will be pleased to see that the Map Track Color Setting now applies to All Map Layers. Additionally, Pool Swim Pace Alerts will now mute as expected, preventing unwanted interruptions.

Sensor Connectivity and Visual Enhancements

Further refinements include improvements to sensor pairing, with the Sensor Pairing Search now displaying Sensors in Pairing Mode First, making the connection process more intuitive. Power-related audio prompts will now only occur when a Paired Power Meter is Connected, eliminating unnecessary notifications. Finally, visual elements like the Sail Expedition First Time Tip and the Tips App Icon Color have been addressed, along with ensuring Watchface Data Accessibility when the Device is Locked and fixing a Watchface Shortcut Misbehaving in an Activity.

Ready to Dive In? How to Update

For users of the Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3, and Tactix 8 eager to explore these improvements, the beta update can be manually initiated. Simply navigate through your watch’s menu to Main Menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates. As this is a beta release, users should be aware that it may contain unforeseen issues, and providing feedback to Garmin is crucial for the continued refinement of their software.
