Garmin releases new beta update 22.24 for Forerunner 965, 955, 265, 255, and 165 models

Garmin has initiated a phased rollout of its latest beta software update, version 22.24, designed to enhance the performance and user experience of its popular Forerunner smartwatch series. This update specifically targets the Forerunner 965, 955, 265, 255, and 165 models, signaling Garmin’s ongoing commitment to refining its devices through continuous software improvements. This initial release is being strategically deployed in a phased rollout, currently reaching 20% of users.

Change log:

  • Fix-scheduled workouts can show off by one day in some time zones.
  • Fix completed DSW sometimes displaying as blank.
  • Fix UI layout issue for last activity tap-in when no activities yet.
  • Fix unable to set virtual partner pace to less than 5 minutes.
  • Fix a bug when dynamic source switching is disabled.
  • Fix crashes when using the keyboard to reply to smart notifications during activity.
  • Connect IQ bug fixes and improvements.
  • Various bug fixes and improvements.

This update addresses a variety of glitches and refines several functionalities, promising a smoother user experience. One notable fix tackles the frustrating issue of scheduled workouts appearing as a day off in certain time zones. This correction is crucial for athletes who meticulously plan their training schedules, ensuring that workouts align perfectly with their calendars and time zone settings, preventing any potential disruptions to their routines.

Additionally, users will no longer encounter blank screens when viewing completed Daily Suggested Workouts (DSW), restoring clarity to their activity logs. This fix ensures that users can accurately track their progress and review their workout data without encountering frustrating display issues.

Further refinements include resolving a layout issue within the user interface, specifically concerning the “last activity tap-in” when no activities have yet been recorded. This enhancement provides a more intuitive and polished user experience, particularly for new users who are just beginning to track their activities.

Those who utilize virtual partners will be pleased to know that the restriction preventing pace settings below five minutes has been lifted. This change caters to advanced runners and cyclists who require highly precise pace settings for their training sessions, allowing for greater customization and control over their workouts. Moreover, a bug related to dynamic source switching, when disabled, has been rectified. This fix ensures that users who prefer a static data source can rely on a consistent and uninterrupted experience.

Addressing stability concerns, the update also fixes a crash that occurred when attempting to reply to smart notifications using the keyboard during an activity. This correction enhances the overall reliability of the smartwatch, preventing unexpected crashes and ensuring a seamless user experience during activities.

Connect IQ users can anticipate improvements and bug fixes within their apps, contributing to a more robust and feature-rich ecosystem of third-party applications. A range of other general bug fixes and enhancements have been implemented to bolster overall performance, refining the device’s responsiveness and stability.

For those eager to access the latest features, the update can be manually initiated through the watch’s settings. Navigate to the main menu, then select “Settings,” followed by “System,” and finally “Software Update.” From there, simply choose “Check For Updates” to prompt the download. For those that are enrolled in the Garmin beta program, they will be very familiar with this process. Users who are not currently enrolled in the beta program but are interested in receiving early access to updates can explore Garmin’s beta program enrollment options through their Garmin Connect account.
